There's something about a rainbow that can't be captured by words, by a camera. It has to be seen, experienced to understand just how beautiful it is. We point our lenses at the sky, touch pen to paper, put fingers to keyboards in vain attempts to describe the indescribable.
My feeble attempts to show you the beautiful rainbow I saw today force me to think about it. And in thinking about that double rainbow I am reminded of God's promise. The first rainbow appeared after Noah was safely off the ark as a reminder to mankind for all time that God will never destroy the earth in a flood again.
Do you want to know a secret? God's kept that promise. And He's still keeping that promise. Sure, there's lots of hand wringing over the polar ice caps right now but I'm absolutely confident that even if all the ice in the world melted, God would keep the earth from flooding.
Each time I see a rainbow I think of that promise of my Lord. That promise that He has kept faithfully for thousands of years and will continue to keep for every year to come.
Here's the most amazing part about God's promises. Each time He keeps a single promise, it is proof that He will keep every promise that He's made. Each day that the earth is global-flood free is proof that He is faithful and will complete the work He began in me. Each time I see a rainbow in the sky it is proof that Christ is coming back to bring me as a part of His bride, the church, to be with Him where He is in the place prepared for us.
God's promises past are evidence of His promises yet to come. Each rainbow I see this summer is an indescribable reminder that God has been faithful, is still faithful, and always will be faithful. I can fully trust His promises, rely on His word. Praise be.
