I could go on for half an hour about this verse (did it tonight in fact) but I think it's worth a glance and I'll try to be brief.
With all our hearts....literally with all our souls. Everything we have needs to be invested in what we're doing right here and right now. Emotions, actions, thoughts we're to give it all to the present. The past is behind us, the future is a mystery - right here, right now is all we truly have. All our hearts in all we do.
As working for the Lord. Jesus made it very clear that we are either working for Him or against Him. There is no middle ground, no fence to sit on. We are either fulfilling the good deeds God has laid out ahead of time for us to do or we're working against Him we're opposing the Almighty. I don't know about you, but I know which side of that divide I want to be on all the time.
And finally, the beginning - whatever we do. It doesn't matter what it is, we're to do it for God. Be engaged in it because we're doing it to God's glory. We are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared ahead of time for us to walk in (Ephesians 2:10). We don't need to worry about the what, God has already planned good things for us to do what we're doing right this instance (staring at a computer screen) is what God knew we would be doing. What is up to us is how we do it. Are you engaged right now mentally? Thinking about what you're reading, seeing if it lines up with scripture? Physically, leaning forward, actually reading and staying awake verses drifting off to sleep? Emotionally? Does it matter to you if you do or don't do everything to the max, to God's glory?
Whatever we do. If we eat, eat to God's glory to the best of your abilities. Working, work our hardest for God. Playing, competing, we are God's ambassadors. We are called to respect our opponents, to give our best all the time. Day in day out. Even if we're just chilling, chill to the max! Whatever we do, do it for God with all of us. Be all there in the present and enjoy the gift God has given us. Live to the max.
