But neither of those songs was the best part of worship. The best part of worship was listening to someone sing just to my left. See, I can't sing. I'm entirely tone deaf. And I could tell this person was off. But their singing was incredible.
If you're thoroughly confused, that's understandable.
The person singing off key, out of rhythm to my left? They can't walk on their own for more than a couple of steps. They only speak in one or two word sentences that I've ever heard. They can't stand up on their own.
Yet every Sunday they're there, singing with a heart of joy. They open their Bibles and follow the scripture while Pastor preaches. They always have a smile to share with me and every time I get to ask them how they're doing, they're doing "gooooooood."
And there I am, standing on my own two feet, turning pages in my Bible with finger dexterous enough to type this blog post, quick to speak (probably too quick). In so many ways I'm so blessed. But that person just to my left? They're just as blessed because they get it. They get that life is about so much more and less than we think it is. Can you imagine a better life than getting to read your Bible and praise God every single day?
It doesn't matter if you can sing or not, if you can write poetry or dance or even walk on your own. God created each of us unique, special, different. And we can each praise God for who He is and how He is working in our lives. He is always working. The off key singer? They get it. And let me tell you, it's beautiful to hear them sing.
